Group Guitar Lessons

Guitars are beautiful instruments.  Their sound, their design, the way they feel when you hold them.  There is something simply wonderful about them.  It makes sense that when you see one you have the desire to pick it up and strum the strings.  Perhaps you dream of being able to pick it up at informal gatherings so that you can play and sing a few tunes with your friends and family.  Whatever the reason, the desire to learn to play guitar is not an uncommon one.  This can make for a lot of guitar students who are unsure of how to learn.
Guitar lessons are one of the most popular ways to try to learn how to play.  However, most people only know about private guitar lessons.  While these may be the most commonly known lessons, they are not the only option.  In fact, one type of lesson that is gaining in popularity is the group lesson.

Group guitar lessons involve a small group of students and one instructor.  The students work together to learn and master the skills of playing the guitar step by step.  Additionally, the students will also learn different songs together.

One of the reasons that students are drawn to group guitar lessons is because of the cost.  Often private lessons are very expensive and when you take a group lesson, your cost is significantly less.  This makes guitar lessons plausible for those who might be on a budget.

Additionally, there is a social aspect to group guitar lessons that some students really like.  Here you might be able to make friends who you can get together to play with outside of your lessons.

That being said you do sacrifice that one on one instructional time when you decide to take group guitar lessons.  Your instructor has their attention pulled in several different directions between you and the other students in the class.  Additionally, their goal is to work at the pace of the class no necessarily at your pace.  That means that if you fall behind you may not be able to catch up.

While the cost of group guitar lessons is lower than traditional private lessons, that does not necessarily mean that they are affordable for everyone.  You should still be expecting to spend somewhere between $20 and $50 per week on lessons.  That can be as much as $200 per month.  Unfortunately for many students, finding that kind of money can be incredibly difficult, and may even make taking lessons an impossibility.

However, that does not have to be the case.  For those who are intent on learning to play guitar, but worried about funding the venture one of the best resources out there are DVD series designed to help teach you.  For example, the "Learn and Master Guitar" DVD series is designed to help you master the art of guitar.  You will get the same information that you would in group guitar lessons at a fraction of the cost.  While a year of group guitar lessons may cost you over $1500, the entire DVD series will only cost you $200.  This can make your dream of playing guitar much more attainable.
